Sydney’s Western Suburbs have gained a reputation as one of the most diverse areas in NSW. With residents from a wealth of ethnic and cultural backgrounds, the area is a hub of social transformation.

In keeping with the Western Sydney cheer, Kaplan Homes will be profiling one of its popular cultural events – the Deepavali Fair. Thirty three per cent of Australia’s Hindi-speaking community can be found in Western Sydney, so this is a special occasion. Also known as “the festival of lights”, the fair is based on rich Hindi tradition. It is one of the most celebrated Indian festivals across the globe. Here’s what you can expect at this year’s celebrations in October.

A Family-Friendly Affair

The Deepavali Fair is host to an assortment of activities and entertainment to cater for everybody. A family-friendly environment has been cultivated at the annual affair. All Western Sydney residents, from tots to seniors, are welcome.

Food, Glorious Food

You can enjoy a variety of flavoursome Indian cuisine at the festival. Whether you have a sweet tooth or prefer more savoury, spicy food – there’ll be something for you at the festival. There will be food stalls, so you get to try out all the offerings.

A Rich Display of Arts and Culture

There will be live music, theatrical performances and cultural performances at the festival. Attendees are offered a chance to immerse themselves in Indian culture.

Did You Think We Forgot About the Lights?

You can expect to witness all things bright and beautiful during Deepavali celebrations. From creative light displays to traditional fireworks the experience is unforgettable.

The festival’s fixation with light has symbolic meanings. It represents the quintessential triumphs of light over darkness, enlightenment over ignorance, and good over bad. The concept exists in almost every culture, and that’s what makes the celebration so far-reaching. A message of hope, friendship, tolerance and global peace is at the core of the celebration in modern times.

Kaplan Homes’ latest projects are currently in full swing, with houses being built right across Western Sydney. We’re excited about this growth and deeply proud of becoming part of the area’s diverse fabric.
